Dalian is a city of 6 million on China’s north-east coast, just across the Yellow Sea from Korea. It is a modern and cosmopolitan city, known as the “Hong Kong of the North” and described as one of China’s most desirable cities to live in. Dalian was part of what was known as Manchuria, and was occupied by both the Japanese and the Russians. This is seen in its architecture, most clearly in what is known as the old city, which dates to the Japanese occupation over 100 years ago. Music: Excerpt from Tea Roots by Kevin MacLeod
